In eukaryotes, seven Sm proteins bind to U-snRNAs to form U-snRNP complexes (U-snRNPs), which are involved in the splicing of pre-mRNA. Due to alternative mRNA splicing, two isoforms of Sm protein B (named U-snRNP B and U-snRNP B’) are found that differ in size and their C-terminal end.
